Texas DPS allows applicants to fulfill the classroom portion of the requirement by either attending the LTC class in person or complete the LTC class online. Notes of Texas Constitution Carry law:
With the impending passing of Constitution Carry law in Texas, many people had asked me what are some reasons they should still obtain/maintain their license to carry permit. I came up 9 reasons below:
1. The Earliest effective CC date is 9/1/2021
2. Reciprocity with 38 other States. 3
. Instant purchase of guns without background check
4. Learn the current Texas gun laws
5. Law enforcement will know you are not a criminal
6. Some Open Carry States (such as NM) will require a LTC/CCW in order to conceal carry
7. Carry within 1,000’ of schools
8. Without a LTC you can’t go to UTEP and EPCC while carrying

Her is an “one-stop” pathway to fulfill “ALL” the DPS LTC class requirement. Just to be clear, the online class will only replace the “classroom” portion of the requirement (Part A), students will still need to complete the Range Safety (Part B) and Shooting Proficiency Test (Part C) by attending the “LTC-101 Completion” course.

Once you have completed your online class, you will need to attend the LTC-101 Completion Class (Range Safety as well as the Shooting Proficiency Test) in order to complete all the DPS LTC class requirements. People Exempt From LTC-101 Completion Class
I have zero control if DPS will exempt you from the LTC-101 Completion class. Below information is what I found on the internet. Please make your inquiry with DPS Handgun License Department directly at 512-424-7293
State Correctional Officers
Those employed by the Texas department of Criminal Justice as correctional officers are automatically exempt from the shooting portion of the class.
Military/Veterans
Active duty military or veterans that have proof of firearms familiarization training OR shooting scores dated within the past 10 years. It can be on rifle OR handgun. You will not need to provide this to take the class, you will provide this to DPS with your application after you take the online class.
County Jailers
County jailers that have completed firearms training as part of their employment requirement are exempt from the shooting portion of the class.
